Lysandre Kyrkos is the deuteragonist of
Auster. Centuries ago, when the worship of the Old Gods was still widespread across Auster, he served as an Arbiter and presided over many Arbitrations, focusing primarily on settling criminal disputes. When the Old Gods became replaced by the New and the kingdoms of Auster turned against the Arbiters, he was sent into a sort of cryogenic stasis by the Twelfth Arbiter, Kallias, and thereafter awoke again during the height of the Khidian Empire's reign. Captured by Empress Elettra, Lysandre became her test subject, and from him she stole one of his hallowed lungs.
Two decades afterwards, the Khidian Empire fell, and he thought that he might taste freedom. Instead, Lysandre finds that he simply exchanged one master for another: the protagonist Ríast takes him as a hostage and orders him to take them to the Font of Eternity, that they may destroy it once and for all. Torn between his sympathy for Ríast and his sworn duty as an Arbiter to protect the Font, Lysandre struggles to make sense of his new role in a world that seems to have no place for him, all the while unaware of the subconscious grudge he nurses deep within his trampled heart.

In Part 1, Lysandre is the First Arbiter (this is not an ordinal, but a title granted to he who serves Nerine, Goddess of Water and the Ocean), which grants him command over water in all its forms. As an Arbiter, he is nigh immortal, and his flesh regenerates from nearly any wound, albeit slowly. The loss of one of his blessed lungs has rendered him at half-strength compared to his kin, and if his other lung were to become damaged in any way, that would spell his certain death.
Lysandre is a trained and experienced swordsman who is comfortable with a variety of weapons, and as an Arbiter, he supplements his formidable swordplay with lances of ice and chilling waves. Although he is not strictly a pacifist, he typically prefers not to harm others beyond what is absolutely necessary, and so his fighting style tends more towards protection and restraint.
In Part 2, Lysandre's body is made whole again, but in that restoration he becomes an ordinary human man once more. Even deprived of his divine powers, however, he remains a strong combatant and always keeps a sword at his side.
An empathetic, devout, and steadfast man, Lysandre often seems lost in thought and is prone to bouts of sentimental melancholy. Although he tries to keep a tight clamp over his personal feelings in favor of following his moral principles, he can never hide the passionate rage he feels upon seeing injustice and, depending on his mental state, can sometimes become lost in his own self-righteous fury.
In better times, Lysandre is encouraging, radiant, and gregarious and has an offbeat sense of humor. He is overly concerned with propriety and can, at times, be easily flustered. Despite everything, there is still a part of him that is very much still a prim and proper knight, and he balks at crass language and overly forward behaviors. He has a tendency towards self-deprecation and often allows others to be cruel to him under the belief that he is helping them by acting as their metaphorical punching bag. Lysandre loves taking care of others and feeling appreciated, and he can often be found doing mundane tasks for no other reason than knowing he is being useful.

In Part 1,
Enoch and Lysandre are ideological opposites by every definition of the phrase. Lysandre battles between wanting to both subjugate and redeem Enoch. Conversely, Enoch is fascinated with Lysandre, whose genuine idealism and stalwart pureheartedness seem too good to be true. Both are obsessed with the other, and both stake the validities of their entire worldview on the outcome of this battle of wills. Neither seems to realize yet that Lysandre has already won.
In Part 2, they become cautious friends who were once ideological enemies. Both understand and recognize the grip they have over each other, and handle that responsibility with more care. Enoch is thankful to Lysandre for showing them how to love living, and Lysandre is thankful to Enoch for showing him how to live for himself more. They maintain as much of a healthy distance as is possible for them.
Alistair and Lysandre are begrudging allies. Lysandre views Alistair as a coward who ran away from their responsibilites and is offended at the very idea of someone so powerful yet so reluctant of fighting, even if it is to supposedly protect the weak. Alistair, meanwhile, is fully cognizant of the fact that Lysandre cannot stand them, and avoids him as a result almost fearfully: a fact which only riles Lysandre further.
