Sayf Athelos is a supporting character from Auster. Stoic and reserved around strangers, they may at first seem standoffish, but in reality they are simply shy. After spending centuries wandering alone, Sayf encountered one Caterina Athelos, who convinced them to throw their lot in with mankind. Through this connection, they eventually cross paths with protagonist Ríast, and through them, encounter their brother Enoch once more, only to find him exactly the sort of villain they worried he would one day become.


As Caterina's right hand, Sayf's main duties typically involve stealth assassinations, and as a shifter, they are exceptionally well-suited for the role. However, they prefer to avoid relying on their shifting abilities when it comes to killing and usually perform their assassinations using human tools, such as knives and daggers.

As a shifter, their true form is essentially a mass of black sludge, eyes, tentacles, and sharp teeth. Its shape vaguely resembles that of a gryphon's, but it is ultimately rather fluid and dynamic in nature. While they are in their human form, hints of their true form show through their shadow; they can manifest it as black tendrils that grow visibly inky and slimy the more their grip over their human form slips. The mark on their face is actually how their kind scars; it was inflicted upon them by Enoch many years ago. Nestled deep within their true form is their core, a spherical tanzanite gemstone carved with hundreds of facets.
